Hi Mark, Nice notes, thanks. Meyney is a favorite of mine, though maybe not the startling bargain it was once - '86 & '89 were imho 3rd growth level for cru bour. prices. But it still is dependable (Parker disagrees).

Hi, Dale. Yes, Meyney has long been a favorite of ours, starting in our penurious days as grad students. The '82 was possibly our first top quality Bordeaux purchase (and every bit as good as this '86, I think). The '80s were certainly a high point for them, but they haven't seemed to reach the same heights since the '90 (IMO). Still, they offer good QPR. FWIW, Cordier as a whole hasn't seemed the same since the '80s, and of course they sold off Gruaud-Larose toward the end of the '80s, too, IIRC. Even though we didn't have much money to invest in B'dx back then, I did splurge for the '86 G-L, which is still slumbering in our cellar. In a sense, this Meyney was a prelude of things to come.

Same for me on the Meyney...it sure was cheap back in the 80's.

I remember around 1995, the 1986 Meyney was the "house wine" at Sparks Steakhouse in NYC, something like $29.99 a bottle.

Sigh. Sparks still has a nice list, reasonably priced for NYC, but no longer the steals of the past.
