TN: '83 Ch. Meyney

Consumed tonight al fresco (on a glorious Indiana summer eve) with a dinner of lamb, corn, Chinese long beans and salad (all except the lamb grown by us).

Color: garnet in the center with orange at the edge, fairly dark

Nose: Wow! Licorice, dark fruit, cedar, mint, minerals, chocolate, sweet oak,

Palate: tasted before the food, it seemed acidic and a trifle thin. After trying it with the food (and after it had been opened for 30 minutes), it presented itself as pure cassis fruit with a backbone of acid, lots of cedar, mint and a decent finish. Overall, it was not the deepest wine, but impressed both of us as resembling a good quality California Cabernet (minus the oak).

For a Cru Bourgeois perhaps past its peak, this wine showed beautifully. Paired with the lamb, it gave the impression of pure cassis fruit, Very enjoyable!

thanks for the notes Mark. Meyney was a great overachiever in the 80s. Less so since, but still usually a good buy. Dale
