Opened last night with dinner:
2001 Prager Grüner Veltliner Weissenkirchen Smaragd 'Achleiten'
color: dark yellow nose: minerals, green peas and honey palate: viscous mouthfeel, honey, melon, pears and as it warms, Riesling-like "petrol"
This was a truly fantastic wine. Thick enough to coat your mouth, wiht
13% v/v alcohol, it still had a lightness about it that made it an excellent match with food. The petrol note was quite noticeable as the wine got warmer, something that I'd never before encountered in a Grüner Velitliner. My only regret is that we didn't get more of this wine...
