With dinner out at a local Italian restaurant tonight, we got a bottle of:
2005 Alois Ladeger "Riff" Pinot Grigio della Venezia IGT nose: minerals, light citrus notes, a hint of tropical fruits palate: light body, round entry, stones, fruit, crisp finishThis wine proved to be quite unlike either your typical Pinot Grigio from Friuli (more body and roundness, no tartness) or an Pinot Gris from Alsace or the New World (lighter, more sprightly, no honey or pineapple). Had I been tasting this wine blind, I might have guessed Sauvignon Blanc from a good producer. In fact, it quite resembled the bottle of Clos Roche Blanche 2005 Sauvignon Blanc #2 that we had two nights earlier. Quite lovely, all in all, and a good match with the grilled tuna salad I got for dinner.
