2009 les rosiers bordeaux slightly goopy merlot plum fruit, edge of sweetness. was using to start a new batch of vinegar, so happy to have a $5 bottle to throw in. C+

2009 cantarranas rueda another $5 wine, Betsy was using to cook clams, grassy and light b-/c+

2008 Furst "Pur Mineral" Muller-Thurgau with lentil soup and halibut with a zucchini relish light, flinty, a bit short, good for m-t but not a buy again. b

2008 jj Prum bernkasteler Badstrube lighter and less interesting than the 08 graacher himm, still a nice wine, granny smith, slate and sulphur, b/b+

2005 Joquet Les Petites Roches Chinon with grilled teriyaki salmon, red cabbage surprisingly, a little closed on night one, but still nice balanced bottle of black cherries, herb, and green tobacco. retasted on friday with pizza it has opened substantially and i liked even more but that might be because i really needed a glass of wine. b+

why did i need a glass of wine on good friday? about 2:30 friday a religious lunatic (not a "client') decided to stab me repeatedly, Luckily i was wearing a thick fake suede jacket and thick shirt, and vast majority of chest stabs did not go thru (utility knife). i was able to grab knife (worst damage is to my hand, deep muscle but no nerve), but he also had another blade (drywall key saw)in other hand, going mostly for my head. my helper actually saved me by hitting him with a bat, i got saw and threw away and was able to hold guy in bear hug till cops came. so i have a lot of stitches and staples, but ok. 4 hours at hospital, 1.5 hours giving statemet, then catching up office- yea, wine seemed like a good idea

besides that fun, betsy's beloved grandmother got sick first night of passover and died th, so bets went to la sat am. what a fun easter!

a bit overwhelmed by people bringing food, but betsy hasd chicken drying in fridge so i roasted a la bouchon recipe. wine was 2009 f. cotat culs de beaujeau sancerre - note to self, when one handed avoid wax! this is an open and friendly version, fairly ripe- reminds me of '06 cotats. lots of grapefruit and a little pineapple, but plenty of wet rock minerality on backend. very good, will see how remainder is tonight

sorry re typing. i'm a bit limited, trying not to use left hand, but i'm ok.

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Jesus Dale what a horrorshow. Thank God you've survived it although it must be quite painful. I think you merited more than a glass, in fact a good dram would have been in order. Luck and forethought that your man had the bat, too. I just got back from a quick NY trip (sorry no time to look anyone up) and found the weather quite warm, so its a miracle you were wearing heavy clothes...

Best for a quick recovery, lubricated with only high-grade oil. My sympathies to Betsy, too.

I'm so sorry to hear of your travails. I admire your ability to write wine reviews in the midst of all of this. An uneventful recovery I hope. My own father died immediately after the seder so I can identify. My deepest sympathies to Betsy as well.

There is I hope you will see some where down the road a delicious irony to your religious lunatic's attack. But Fanatics of any stripe rarely see irony. I trust you are healing and Betsy returns soon you need each other now more than ever.

I can't even imagine an attack like that.

How terrible, Dale! Glad to hear you're OK now, and best of luck for rapid healing and feeling better.

Sorry to hear that — fanatics are a menace but normally quite so nearly lethal. I can only suggest going on taking the medicine, (speaking as one who has celebrated Easter with some of the first of the English asparagus crop washed down with a 2000 GC Froehn Muscat followed by some wonderful Dexter beef with a 1996 Beau-Séjour Bécot, and for once, ate it outside in glorious sunshine.)

Best wsihes for a speedy recovery.

Tim Hartley

Heal up quickly and may you never have such an encounter again.

That should have read: Sorry to hear that — fanatics are a menace but NOT normally quite so nearly lethal. Tim

Dale,

very relieved that you are ok after such a violent episode. Condolences also to Betsy

Wow. My condolences to Betsy and my best wishes for a speedy recovery.

thanks all for good wishes, better each day

I hope you have a fast recovery. It is quite fortunate that there was another person to help you. Even in the interior of the country, there are now many violent problems. When I was very young many people did not even bother to lock their door. Now there are home invasions where your locked door is kicked in. A good burglar alarm is a must. A local woman is now on trial for killing her few day old baby daughter in a washing machine. Despite who murdered the child, one can be quite certain that she alone could not walk to the machine, start the wash cycle and jump in. The autopsy revealed that she was live when put in the washing machine which did extensive physical damage to her body as well as killing her. The police chief said it was the worst event he could recall in his several decades of police work.

It is unfortunate that Betsy's grandmother died.

Oh wow Dale, so sorry to hear that. Kinda confirms an old Bulgarian saw that a misfortune never comes alone. Wishing you a full recovery and may Betsy's sorrow be sweet.
