Before going to a Leo Kottke/Bruce Cockburn double bill at Tarrytown Music Hall, we took some friends to dinner at Bistro 12 across the street. I had octopus and braised rabbit with mushrooms, had brought along the 1998 Ch. Dalem (Fronsac), which I double-decanted just before leaving house. Black plum fruit with a little mocha, mostly resolved tannin, round soft acids. Medium bodied, not especially complex but fun and drinking well. B

Friday was scallops with chorizo and corn, and the 2017 JP Brun/Terres Dorees Beaujolais Blanc. Light, sweet pear and apple fruit, moderate acids, easy and clean. B

Saturday was grilled pave steak, radicchio, and summer squash, plus salad and a sweet potato.Wine was the 1995 Ch. Meyney (St. Estephe). Good color, still a bit of tannin. Cassis fruit, midbodied, just a little cigarbox. Holding on but not very complex. Certainly a drinkable claret but without that extra verve that made the Meyneys of the 80s one of my favorite Bordeaux values. B-

Sunday was a heritage (Duroc I think) double pork chop, braised red cabbage and Asian pear, udon noodles, and salad. Wine was the 2015 Van Volxem Alte Reben Riesling Saar) Hint of RS, ginger, orange peel, grapefruit and pit fruits. Nice B/B+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
