In a week alone, a few wines:
2001 Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Kabinett (mosel-Saar-Ruwer) Very full-bodied for a Kabinett. Tropical fruit and minerals on the nose, peaches and slate on the palate. Long finish. At $17, more expensive than a lot of Mosel Kabinetts, but well-worth it. A-With a takeout chicken (horror!) a half bottle of 1999 Canon-Moueix (Canon Fronsac). Takes a while to open up. Moderate raspberry fruit and a fair dose of new-oaky vanilla. Not complaining - at $7 a half-bottle, this is a pleasant dinner wine with good acidity. B/B+
Last night was the last Hudson River-side concert of the season, and thankfully there was no rain. I wasn't wild over the band (a little too "light" jazz), but good times with friend watching sun go down. The 2000 Gros Noir Bandol Rosé (an amazingly pale salmon shade) had pleasantly bitter strawberry/raspberry fruit and nice mid-weight body. But at $17 overpriced. If this was $10 or $12 I've buy more, but I'll pass. B
My usual disclaimer: I'm a pretty easy grader, basically A is a very good wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice.
