TN: Casa de Santar, Dao, 1999

I'm drinking more wines like this one from Portugal lately: unheralded, unranked and unpointed. Nothing earthshattering here, but...that's O-kkkay. A simple wine that can stick around for several more years if it wants to, but drinks nicely now, with cherries and leatherstrap predominating. There's some light smoke and toast from the oak used, with a slight pruniness on the finish, but nothing to make you object. For about $17, this could substitute as a lighter alcohol (13%) Cotes-du-Rhone with more elegance than power. B+ / 87 This is their 'Reserva' edicion...
