TN: Chateau Boyd-Cantenac 1978

Chateau Boyd-Cantenac 1978 was not well known where I live in the US in the 1970s, and some comments by reviewers did not inspire one to seek it out. This is the first bottle of Boyd-Cantenac I have ever tasted. It has been stored properly since shortly after release, there were no cork issues, and the fill was in the low neck.

There was considerable very dark sediment sticking to the inside of the bottle. The color was still dark with little evidence of age around the rim. The bouquet and taste were mostly cassis, but there was some bell pepper. The wine is still holding perfectly well with no flaws showing. It is a bit simple, but it now is in better condition than many more famous wines from the region from 1978. I would guess this had a lot of tannin and was rather mean when young. It seems to be a rather old-fashioned style wine.
