TN Chateau Ferriere 1983

The single bottle of Chateau Ferriere 1983 was properly stored by me since shortly after release. The fill was in the low neck, and there were no cork or other issues.

This is still a fairly full wine, especially for a Margaux, with a bit of age showing around the rim The acid level was adequate, and the tannins were resolved. It is a somewhat average Margaux with no serious faults, but not much to get excited about either. It tastes and smells mainly of dark fruit.

In 1983 the property was owned by Madam Durand, as noted on the label. However she leased the vineyard to Chateau Lascombes, and the Ferriere label was seen only now and then . In 1988 the Merlaut family bought Ferriere from the Durands, and in 1991 they ended the lease with Lascombes. Since then the quality of Ferriere has greatly improved. Since only about 8 ha are planted with vines, Ferriere still can be difficult to find in many areas.
