TN Chateau Coutet 1976

I had to empty one wine rack to access the wall for installing a duct for a new coolng unit. I noticed a botte of Chateau Coutet 1976. I have not tasted this wine since the 80's when I found it rather ordinary. However I did open it, and it proved to be quite drinkable, although not a top wine for the vintage by any means. I was quite surprised that it was still drinkable and good, since I thought t was headed down hill in the 80s. It has a somewhat restrained bouquet, but there is nothing nasty. There is a hint of something herbal or grassy. The wine is rather sweet, but is fairly well balanced with acidity. The finish is medium.

Since I was surprised that the wine was still decent, I looked up to see if Micael Broadbent had tasted it recently. He has tasted it many times, and found it rather lacking in the 80s. However in tasting as recent as

2000 he found that it had held and developed fairly well. He gave it a 3-star out of 5-star rating. Of course the wine needs to be consumed very soon. I had a bottle of the 1975 Coutet, which is a much better wine, in reserve. However I did not have to open it.
