TN: Chinon and California Touriga Nacional

With a chicken panini, fries, and a salad, the 2006 C&P Breton “Beaumont ” Chinon. Structured, a bit tight at first, opens after some air (and is very good on day 2). Dark fruit, cocoa, and some light green tobacco leaf n otes. On second night seems smoky. Good acids, supple tannins, this could u se time, but I enjoyed a lot now. B+

Wednesday we had leftovers (lamb, lentils, risotto, and more), lit the Meno rah (no latkes!), and had the 2012 Arnot-Roberts Touriga Nacional rose. Ou ch, my last bottle of this, it’s been a 2013 favorite. Lithe, nervy, mine ral with cherry fruit, good length, goodbye young friend. B+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a pa rty where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivi ty, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

We bought a case of the Arnot Roberts. Didn't make it two months. All gone.
