[TN] Eastsiders

Hello, Friday the Society of tastevins had a formal none-blind tasting of Eastside Bdx MC-ed by Olle Nordahl. All had a larger part merlot, percentage of the rest is reported with each wine.

My impressions: Ch des Annereaux 2003 Lalande de Pomerol [n] round, fruity, orange marmalade, bitter oranges [p] slight acidity in attack, medium coarse tannines, acceptable length ending on fresh acidity, fruity sweet, a little cough mixture? but the thinnest in the flight

30% CabFr SEK 143

Ch Lyonnat 2001 Lussac-Saint-Emilion [n] more strict, marzipan? cherry pits, vanilla [p] lead pencil, more acidity in attack than #1, medium tannines, fatter, vanilla

15 % CabSauv 15 % CabFr SEK 143

Ch Soutard 1999 Saint Emilion [n] fierier, fruit, autumn leaves, wonderful nose, dried fruit [p] structure, power, still too young, but velvety (Hey - does this make sense?!)

30 % CabFr SEK 291

Ch Ferrand 1999 Pomerol [n] round, fruit, autumn leaves, ripe dark plums, plum jam, vanilla, barnyard [p] forcefull, mucho fruit, earthiness, barnyard, plums, almonds, still too young CabFr 50 % SEK 239

Ch Plince 1999 POmerol [n] peppery (cab), asparagus, black currant leaves, dryly aromatic, caraway, barnyard [p] round, dark fruit, fruity acidity, richness, earthiness, needs time! CabFr 23 % CabSauv 5 % SEK 290

Overall impressions: that guy in 'Sideways' was soooo wrong about Merlot. However, these are definitely food wines, things to drink with red meat or game - and seriously in need of good aeration at their present stage of development. My favorite was #3 - of course I would choose the most expensive one!

Cheers
