TN: Saar, Prosecco, Touraine, Barolo

Dinner at a friends honoring other old friends back in the area for a visit . I was in charge of appetizers and made smoked salmon canapes, mozzarella/ pepper bruschetta,& prosciutto/date rollups

NV Tutela Prosecco A little sweetness, appley, a bit blah and clipped. B-/C+

2011 Grand Moulin Sauvignon Blanc (Touraine) Intensely grapefruity, decent acids, a little sweetness, this is the Fresca of wines. I actually liked it. B

Dinner was braised beef brisket, risotto with squash, a Turkish eggplant di sh, and a green salad with blue cheese and walnuts

2008 Vajra “Albe” Barolo Ripe tannins, forward for Barolo, red fruits, some violet/floral notes, ver y popular. B+/B

There was a 2009 Bordeaux AC that I neglected to write down any notes on (o r name of), but a pleasant round Merlot-y quaff.

Last night I hurried to throw together a meal, went a bit crosscultural wi th sag daal, samosas, and margherita pizza. I went to match the Indian foo d with the 2002 Zilliken Saarburger Rausch Kabinett Riesling. A bit sweeter and softer than I expected, but very tasty with green apple and lime fruit , some mineral tones, good finish. B/B+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a pa rty where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivi ty, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

----------------------------------- Dale: I don't like to "waste" wines on Indian food. The best match I have found has been cider, discovered some 50 years ago when at uni. Of course in US parlance, that would be hard cider. Graham
