In Colorado we've known about Gruet for a couple of years now. They've got a full range of champers from the NVs to vintage and even some pretensions at premium bottlings. I've tended to stick with the vintage Brut at about $17.

Here's the Gruet Web site:

I've ordered direct from them, but now it's commonly available at outlets in my neighborhood. I meant to stop by for a hospitality check last August when I passed through Albuquerque on vacation. Came through town late on a Sunday afternoon, so had to pass by with just a wave.

I agree. We had it at the "winery" (read tasting room in an industrial park in Albuquerque), along with the rest of the lineup. Our perennial favorite for QPR is their NV Brut, which has all the balance and character I expect from a NV sparkler. Price notwithstanding, however, their Brut Rose Vintage was a winner. Also, their (still) Pinot Noirs were surprisingly good.

Yes, I've had the Gruet NV, quite good. I think I prefer to the Blanc de Noirs, by a hair. Dale
