tragedy in Petit-Palais

Some of you may have heard of the horrific crash in Bordeaux, near the town of Petit-Palais-et-Cornemps. A tour bus carrying a seniors club from the small town collided with an out of control truck, causing a huge fire and the deaths of 43 senior citizens, many retired wine makers. Only quick thinking by the bus driver to open the doors prior to the impact kept the cost from being even higher; but still the collective history of this village, as well as practically every family who lives there, has received a terrible blow.

This part of the Libournais is mostly Bordeaux Superior. For many years now we have been a client at Ch. Cornemps, the domain of the charming Fagard family. We don't know whether the retired Fagard parents were on the bus.

Last night we opened a bottle of Ch. La Jorine 2009, a Lussac-St-Emilion owned by the Fagard family and a favorite of ours. We had a moment of silence in support of the Fagards and all those mourning in Petit-Palais.

Emery,

too bad about the crash. Great gesture to open a bottle of wine from a producer you had a connection with.

BTW, I sent you an email to adelka last monday. Did you receive it?

Emery, while I heard of the crash I didn't know the particulars of the victims. Ju st read the NYT article, what a tragedy for the village (and of course the families). I hope your friends (and that is what long term business relatio nships with people you like are- friendships) are ok. In any case sympathy to all of those families.
