Valentines Day selections

I dunno...I think I'll pop the cork on a bottle of Laurent Perrier Cuvee de Grand Siecle. If I can't get lucky with that... :)

Going retro with Steak Diane and Ceasar Salad, mousse au chocolat (living dangerous with raw eggs twice in one meal!) for dessert and a Ch. Belair St Emilion. Chocolate and red wine, at least my heart will say thank you!

Our Valentine's dinner was celebrated at a local eatery with our two year old, a day after a rare blizzard hit town and dropped 16" of snow on us. The wine chosen was Gruet Brut NV, which was quite nice and only $22 on the wine list (one of this restaurant's several attractions to us).

Well, we decided to leave the Grand Siecle in the fridge and go for the really big show-stopper. Our one bottle of '97 Solaia. Turned out to be an excellent decision on a couple of levels, not the least of which was because the cork was about half-soaked. The original plan was to hold it til 2010, but from the looks of the cork it might not have made it.

We took the bottle to one of our favorite restaurants and gave it about an hour to breathe. Absolutely stunning. Made sure tasters got passed around to the couples at adjoining tables, the sommelier and our waitress. Guess that's why they didn't charge us corkage. ;)

Brilliant, you pay your corkage in liquid form, the mark of a true wine restaurant !
