What's the least expensive wine you've enjoyed?

Oh and it was about $3USD. Tom AZ

Dale, Thanks. I'm going to pick some up this weekend. It'll be almost a 30% increase over the Vina Borgia Campo (OK, its $5.50) but I'll splurge.

Do you think there is any chance this will improve with age? Is it worth laying some down for a few years?

Jon, I've bought Borsao since I think the 1999. I've never tried to age , because I've never seen the need (tannins are generally light, and wine in a fruit forward style). I've had bottles with a couple years cellar time, they seemed fine but not neccessarily better. I'd just suggest buying a few (or one!) and just trying. If you think there's potential for improvement, lay down a couple- and report in a few years!

Tom, TJ can't sell wine in my state (PA), but I'll see if I can find that in the wine shops across the border I frequent.

I'm fairly new to malbecs and I've only tried 3 or 4 so far. My favorite so far is the '04 Bodega Catena Zapata. It ran about $18, but well worth it.

Regards, Jon

Jon, The La Bocca was not your typical Argentine Malbec - light on the tannins but easily drinkable and an okay intro to Malbecs. La Bocca also had a Merlot, Cabernet and Sauvignon Blanc - none of which I would rank as very good.

I have not tried the Bodega Cantena Zapata yet - but I will look for that. Thanks, Tom AZ

OK, at $7.99 a bottle, the 2004 Bodegas San Alejandro Las Rocas Garnacha Calatayud is probably not just the least expensive I've enjoyed but also one of the best all around wines I've enjoyed. Very delightful!! My mundane taste buds highly recommend it!!

Dale, Picked up a bottle last week and tried it over the weekend. Very nice. This Borsao is a blend of 75% Garnacha and 25% Tempranillo, while the Vina Borgia Campo de Borja was 100% Garnacha. The blend had a much softer, more 'finished' feel to it.

We had a bit left that I'm going to use in a reduction sauce for some duck I'm making tonight.

I like Grenache in blends, but seldom as 100%. I like this better than the more expensive Tres Picos, it seems better balanced to me.

A Spanish wine from Jumilla; Mahler-Besse's Taja. $12 Canadian. Can't beat that.
