I ordered a bottle of 1970 Haut Brion in a restaurant that was around $150. It opened fine, but with a little air it was obviously off. I had this wine before in this restaurant and it was delicious. When I sent it back I told them to bring another bottle. They said to order something else even though they had several other bottles of it. I guess they thought I would send that back too. I like looking through a thick wine list and saying "I'll have a bottle of number six."

I´d say a Croze-Hermitage Delas 1999 which we had at the Rive Gauche in Tain-Hermitage and wcich cost about EU 35 could have been slightly corked, only, we were unsure, and, besides, we had already made a bit of anuproar with changing our orders repeatedly ... at least, this is the msot expensive I can think of. I know that we returned a bottle of Chateau9 back in 1996 in a posh Stockholm restaurant for being off - not corked, exactly, but off - the sommelier agreed that it was defect and gave us a new bottle. That one cost c EU 40. Then, in Ecusson in Beaune, we had a Gevrey-Chambertin half bottle, price and vintage sorely forgotten but most have been about EU 25 - we got two or three bottles, and all of them corked. I guess the agent who furnishes that restaurant will have had an angry call from Mme La Patronne, later the same day.
