1st Sparkloid

After 3 months of waiting for my Plum wine to clear, I added Sparkloid tonight. 3 tsp for 3 gallons of wine in 1/4 cup water. Brought to a boil, simmered for another minute (sure seemed plenty mixed), ran down stairs & dumped it in while stirring vigorously.

I've never used this before. Never had a batch that didn't fall clear on its own.

Anyway... it seems that at least most of the Sparkloid formed strands in the wine and settled out almost immediately. I this right? Did I screw something up? I happy to wait another month or so for it to clear if this will work. I just didn't expect it to be dropping out so quickly.

Same for me first time I tried Sparkloid, It seemed it all dropped to the bottom after 12 or so hours. I was going to try it again after a month but over the next few days it had cleared great. Took about 2 weeks before most of it fell from the sides of the carboy and seeing some of it in the wine still with a flashlight. But it improved every day. Botteling tonight! :)

Dan, bottling tonight may not be a good idea. Sparkolloid produces very fine sediment that falls slowly. So, Sparkolloid should not be used less than 6 weeks prior to bottling. lum

hmm, thanks Lum! My directions said to wait 2 weeks and I waited just under 3. Bottled before I read this, but it should all be gone before my next batch. It may not come out as perfect as I could do, but it will still be better then having to buy a bottle everytime I make a meal :)
