Lagering/wine aging similarities

I'm wondering about the similarities between aging a wine, and lagering a beer. I've never heard anyone mention the action of remaining yeast during wine aging, yet regarding lager, the claim is that the yeast continue to "work", for weeks, if not months. What is the assumed actual process that occurs in aging wine? Ken A.
