Oak-Mor Experience?

Instead of oak chips, I have some plain and toasted Oak-Mor Granular oak preparation for adding some oak flavor to my wines. Just wondering if anyone in the group has used this product by direct addition to the wine. The question I have is does it settle to the bottom of the carboys as a fairly firm deposit that enables the wine to be racked from it as a clear liquid? Instead of racking by gravity I use a small 1-gpm pump and don't want to take a chance of plugging or ruining my pump.

It does settle quickly but go easy on the quantity if it looks like sawdust. I don't care for the sawdust form because I over-oaked with it. Others like it so don't let my mistake sway you.

I would start with a tenth of what you would normally use and build up until it gets to where you want it. I prefer chips or beans to sawdust; they take toasting better and I prefer at least a medium to medium heavy toast.

If you really need to pump with it in there put a screen over the intake; a 1 gpm pump would have a tight impeller and would not suffer ingesting anything solid well unless it's peristaltic ( the kind where it squishes tubing to drive the fluid).
