Re: Fruit Fly trap !?!?!

I remember reading about a fruit fly trap you can set up in the house, only

Another method is to take an empty glass or plastic jar, poke a bunch of holes in the lid (using a nail), and put a bit of wine or vinegar in it. The files are attracted by the sent, and enter through the holes, but they are too stupid to be able to figure out how to get back out! Eventually they drop from exhaustion. [Don't tell you local SPCA that you are torturing flies]. Then the dead flies attract other flies (since they are cannibals), and you never have to change the bait --- although occasionally you have to empty some of the contents. This works for wasps too!

Starr's method is a bit simpler and easier, but "mine" is a set it up once and leave it solution.

I missed the Negodki trap, what was it? I didn't use vinegar because I had the same thought, I used beer. Louise:o)

I use some rubbing alcohol in a plant mister set on soft spray. Usually one mist will knock them down and then another to finish them off. I usually add some water to thin it down a bit and make it last longer(about 50/50). Works good in the kitchen area with the formica and porcelain but keep it away from furniture which isn't varnished and acoustic musical instruments that aren't in their case, etc.

Something I forgot to mention earlier. It has been my experience that wine does a better job of attracted the flies to the trap then vinegar or fresh juice. so, if your traps aren't working, try a different bait.
