Refractometers and PH meters

Jul 19, 2008 1 Replies

I've made fruit wines for 20 some odd years but this year I may get enough grapes off my new vines for a test. I've never used a refractometer Or PH meter but it's time to invest I guess.

I know that there was a long discussion on PH meters some time ago but I can't seem to find it now. Does anybody have any experience with the Hanna meters, either HI 98103 or HI 99104 or other recommendations for PH meters or with the Chinese refractometers on Ebay or Valley Vintners?

Dick

Dick, I wrote a pH meter FAQ a while back, it's in the archives several times. The Hanna pHEP 5 is a good general purpose meter; mine is 5 years old. The piccolos are a little touchy.
