Vapona no pest strip

Would hanging a Vapona No Pest strip 6-8 feet away do the wine any harm. The fruit fly situation is getting out of hand, I don't know if it's because we live in an apple growing region but there are millions outside and I can't stop them from getting in. They're all hanging around the bucket rims and I'm afraid of opening to push down the cap. The little trap mentioned in my previous thread is doing no good at all, I caught ONE. The Vapona strip contains Organophosphate insecticide and Dichlorvos, if anyone knows what these are. Says they can be used in milk rooms and food processing areas... Louise:o)

Are they still selling those? They were found to be a serious health hazard back in the 60's!

If you have that many flies indoors, try hanging some ordinary fly paper. And put "little traps" all over the room.

I would also spray outdoors with something like carboryl (sold as "Sevin"), or malethion. And put some of the traps I described outdoors

--- one every hundred square feet (10x10) area.

If that doesn't work, there's always good old Agent Orange.

I suggest DDT. :^)

Try setting up a fan or two... fruit flies apparently aren't big enough to fly in the face of the wind, so that should keep them away from the wine. I don't have problems with fruit flies, nor do I have any fans so I have yet to try it. In theory you could hang up a sheet of sticky paper and blow all the flies into it! :)
