when to barrel?

I'm an amateur usually making wines in 6 gallon carboys. Recently I purchased my first barrel, and I'm wondering when is the best time to transfer the wine into the barrel? I have a pinot noir that should be good, but it's not perfectly clear yet, after about 6-7 months in the carboy. I have another batch of cab/merlot that is ready for bottling, but it's good too, and it might benefit from barrel aging.

You could have put each in barrel within a day or two of pressing. There's no need to clarify the wine before barrel aging. Some light lees is OK.
