Lagavulin CS vs 16 YO

All

I'm a big fan of the 16 YO and was wondering if the 12 YO CS is worth the extra money.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks, Tim

I've had the Lagavulin 12 "Special Release" 2002 Cask Strength 58%, and personally I think it's a real great dram - possably just as great as the

16yo. But different: Maybe not as complex, but gives a fresher or cleaner impression so to speak - very phenolic/smoky, and I don't get the sherry I get in the 16 yo.

Worth it or not..? I guess that is up to each of us to decide for him self. If you want a different but just as good a Lagavulin and is willing to pay for that experience, yes, but probably not repetedly. Still I will claim that the Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength is a much better buy when value for money is concidered.

Cheers!

Where I live, the 12 CS is slightly cheaper than the 16. And to my palate, it's just about as good. Not quite the same exquisite balance and perhaps slightly less peaty, but the CS element adds a nice kick. If you rated the 16 at, say, 95, I'd put the CS at 92 or 93.

I also have the 16 yo, which I find quite palatable!

Unfortunately, money is at a premium, so I will have to dream about the 12 yo CS, for now. ;-(
