With you there. It makes me so sad that some of the most exciting whiskies will remain in their bottles untouched.
I have a friend who collects miniatures - I just can't bring myself to leave untouched a whisky that I've not tasted before. I might give him a copy of Our Man in Havana and see if he goes for the alternative board game. If you've read it you'll know what I mean.

I'm definitely on this side of the fence. I collect mini bottles that are either attractive or markers of high quality. I drink anything in the house that's more than 5cl.
Though, having said that, I found out today that Blanton's doesn't sell their mini bottles anymore. These were both high quality and cute because they had tiny little ponies on the caps.
