"Italian" Macallan

Several years ago I was in a grocery story in Venice, Italy and saw an bottle of 8yo Macallan. I didn't buy it but I have since thought that I should have, just out of curiousity. It wasn't very expensive, my recollection is less that $20. Does anyone know anything about it. I know that various distillaries make bottlings for specific markets, such as in Spain or Italy. Are they interesting/any good?

Italy became a good market for single malts before the real explosion over the last 15 or 20 years. Early on, the no-age-statment Glen Grant was the big seller in the young malt department, and you can still get that throughout Europe. The young Italian market Macallan has been around for a long time, and the one I got a couple years back was undistiguished--it was tame and "flabby" (lacking punch or assertive character) when compared to any other Macallan I've had. I don't like to have to strain to enjoy whisky!

It certainly is a 7yo. It is found in most supermarkets at a price of circa 14 EUR.
