Ciders?

Hello,

This request is slightly off-topic for this group but since I couldn't find a newsgroup for ciders, I thought I'd ask it here. I am looking for recommendations for a Dry Cider. I like Strongbow but like other drinks, the US version is slightly different than the UK version. Any suggestions? I like dry and not sweet. Any good US Ciders? I found some suggestions on the web, but I like to probe the collective knowledge here as well.

Cheers,

-Robert.

That one (Aspall Dry) IS quite good, one of the best I've had. The Dupont cidres from Normandy are also very good.

2 Votes for Aspall Dry, thank you. I will seek it out.

For my own education, how would you rate Strongbow? Good, bad, somewhere in-between? I like it, but I am sure there are better.

Towards the low end of somewhere in-between. I don't really like sweet ciders.

Well, SB is "supposed" to be a Dry Cider but I read they make it sweeter for the US exports, I don't know why. It was better when I've had it in England. It's a lot less sweet than Woodpecker, that's for sure. I like Dry Blackthorn also if I can't find SB.

I was in Victoria BC for the Great Canadian Beer Festival, and Merridale Ciderworks was pouring its Scrumpy. Outstanding.

Aspall's ciders are good and gaining ground in their niche, but Merridale's are quite interesting. Those Canajuns are up to something. Beauty, eh? Take off, hoser.

a) houseguest from Australia b) twins just started middle school (how'd that happen?) c) all-day non-beer event on Sunday (but the wine was very good) d) signed a 6-month lease and started to move (making way for construction)

If you guessed "e) all of the above" you win!
