Kegerator advice, any builders out there?

Hey Everyone!

I am in the process of building a kegerator. I have everything but the refrigerator or freezer. I am looking for some advice from others who have built a kegerator. I bought a tower spout, so I really want the tap at the top and I am looking for something that is not very wide.

I would like to fit a full keg inside and am having trouble finding a compact refrig or freezer that does not have a shelf in the way. Here are a couple that I have been looking at..

(this one is the right width, but the darn shelf will stop me putting in a full size keg)

(this one from Sears will work great and it is a little taller than I would like but it will fit a keg)

Anyone out there have some great advice?

Thanks,

Jeff

The style of refrigerator you are looking for is a 'low boy.' These are very easy to find in late spring when the colleges are letting out. Check craigslist for ones near you.

I've had pretty good luck with:

I've had mine about 7 years. I had to replace the thermostat on it once, which was relatively cheap and easy to do. Though the above is a complete system and may take the fun out of building your own.

I've had really bad experiences with Haier refrigeration products. Bought a wine cooler and it died within a few months. Haier replaced it and that died a few months after that.

A year later relatives bought me another Haier wine refrig for my birthday. I figured I'd give it another try. One month later, the top zone of the 2 zone refrig stopped working.

I gave up.
