New in Atlantic City

Hello! I'm new to this (all, actually) news group and I thought I would put out a "shameless plug" to all who would read this. The company I work for has just opened a new beer bar in Atlantic City called "Firewaters". We currently stock 51 draft beers and 101+ bottles from around the world. I don't know how many of the readers are actually local to this area, but AC is a tourist town and we do get travelers from all over the globe. I don't know if anyone is interested, but I thought I'd post anyway. If your in the area stop by, we have a great selection and are located inside the Tropicana Casino! Let me know what you think.... Hi Doug: Could you give us an idea of what's on tap? I know 51 is a lot to recite, but how about some highlights from the tap menu?

Do you have a website? I'd love to see the "beer menu".

Nope, no website yet. We are trying to reach the masses though and a web site should be on the way soon! Doug

I get over to Belmar (from the Princeton area) a couple of times a year, so a little side trip to AC would be no problem. Your beer list is very tempting.

Thanks Pjk

This sounds great, I can hit the 3/6 Hold 'Em then quaff some good brew once I tank it!

"Sidetrip"? Let's see, Princeton to Belmar's about 50 miles (pretty much due east) and Atlantic City's only another 75 miles or so south...

Your beer list> is very tempting.

I agree with that, and think the "sidetrip" would be well worth it.

Now, the questions become- how well are the beers kept, how often does everything (other than the Bud) turn over, is anything (Bluebird, Fullers, a micro or 2) on a handpump, are the glasses "frosted"/ "frozen", are the beers served at the right temperature, is the place comfortable or a noisy zoo, are the bartenders knowledgable, what's a beer cost...

Let's see, The beer is kept very well, though at 39f it is a little cold for some, not cold enough for others..we serve beer in a frosted glass, but most bartenders ask if you wish your glass warm and you can always request and unfrosted pint. the beer does turn over quickly, although there are some slow movers in the bunch. The beer is counted for inventories/profit/loss every 14 days and I use these sheets to determine keg and bottle age. I only keep backup kegs for beer that moves quickly (which, even though I dig the hell out of Bluebird, it doesn't move quickly). Slow movers that I can get in sixtels (5 gal.) I do even though it costs significantly more to do so. As for hand pumps and firkins, I would very much like to get them in but I need a clientel that will drink it. The last firkin I had was on a Friday and I sold 3 pints and I basically drank the rest. Prices for draft pints start at $3.50 for crudweiser and go to $8.00 for La Chouffe, however most beers are in the modest range of 4-5 dollars. Our prices are extremely competative in the AC area and we routinely have specials (currently Dogfish Raison @ $3/pint to make room for the 60 min IPA going online next).

As for the room.....we have no walls, but a fence/gate system to simulate a bier garden so sometimes it gets noisy and you either like our barstools or you d>

Doug,

Thanks for taking the time to completely answer these (somewhat rude?) questions (below). I'm sure your bar'll be the first place I hit next time I'm in AC and I'm sure a lot of other folks here'll do the same. New Jersey is somewhat lacking in good "beer" bars (considering it's population), altho' the couple of multi-taps I've visited in other states didn't seem like the greatest idea either- too much beer to keep fresh, it seemed to me. Certainly a high volume place in a casino might help the turnover situation.

I'm heading down next weekend for that big Atlantique City thing at the Convention Center; hope to stop in on Friday night or Saturday afternoon.

Load those taps up!
