sam adams double bock

I bought a 6 today and tried a few. Not sure about it. Seems very strong with strong almost syrupy aftertaste. In fact, I feel it a wee bit.

I really liked the Sam Adams Scotch ale (or something like that). Do they still produce the Scotch Ale? (I can't think of the name. It was in a Red and Black Checkered carton)

It's about 8.5%abv so yes, it is a bit strong.

The Scotch Ale is no longer made. Sorry.

Best regards, Bill

There used to be a Sam Adams triple bock. I thought it was great, but haven't seen it in years.

The last vintage SA admits to making was in 1997. It DOES age quite well, but the fact that I know of one retailer that STILL has some on the shelf at regular price says something about the actual popularity of the stuff.

(And no, I'm not going to tell you where this place is. I plan to buy out their remaining inventory, bit by bit.)

OK. I'll be generous, then. I saw a good half-dozen bottles or so on the shelf at the Total Beverage at Landmark in Alexandria, VA, just the other night.

The strength is fine, but the Sam Adams doppel seems a simple, flavor-wise.

Yeah, that sucks. Their Scotch Ale was interesting. Well, more so than most of their stuff.

I've seen lots of it recently at Luke's in Rockland, MA.

That about covers it. I can't stand most of the Sam Adams stuff, it reminds me too much of rubbing alcohol. There's much better stuff to spend money on. Red Hook's Blackhook and IPA both come to mind, as does the MacTarnahan's stuff. (Still mourning the sale of the brewery.)

Hello Alexander,

would you be so kind and tell me what the regular price for the Triple Bock is in the US?

TIA and Prost,

Bastian

When it came out in 1994 or so, suggested retail price was $4.99 per 7.4-oz. bottle (special cobalt blue, corked). Most places that sold it would give you a price of $100/case of 34, bringing it down to $4/bottle.

Some places did sell it for $5.49, or $5.99, or whatever they could get for it. If a bar actually bothered to sell the stuff (only the true 500+ beers-available bars even tried), of course there was the usual markup, typically to $9-10. I've only seen two or three bars that ever sold it, all beer-snob hangouts.

Cheers Liquor Mart in Colorado Springs has about a case on their shelves selling for $3.99 a bottle.

Thanks to Jerry and Alexander for your answers. I thought it would cost more. Unluckily it was not available here in Germany but a friend of mine has a few bottles left from the US and I am looking forward to try it!

Regards and Prost,
