Speak up if you like Bud!

That's right. I've been accused of being a Troll (cute but a Troll nonetheless) just because I said I like Budweiser beer. Ohhhhhhhhhh so I am required to choose what I like from YOUR list otherwise I'm a Troll???? That is totally ridiculous. In fact, wait a minute and I'm gonna get another Bud right now. In fact, I think I'm gonna stay home from work tomorrow and starting at 12:01 (I never drink before 12 noon) I'm gonna drink cold Bud all day long while the rest of the saps are slaving away at jobs they hate.

I like Bud and I'm proud of it. It is the #1 selling beer for a reason and that is because it is good. People are being hoodwinked with foreign beers. They cost no more to make and some taste absolutely vile but I see poor schlubs smacking their lips and oozing about characteristics that are all in their minds.

Bud is for me and if it's for you stand up here and give your opinion.

Just out of curiosity, if you're happy with Bud and think anything else is overpriced and nasty, just what are you doing in a newsgroup dedicated to the discussion of beer?

And, seriously, your intention of spending an entire day drinking ice-cold Bud proves nothing at all about other people's appreciation for "foreign beers" that "cost no more to make" (which, by the way, isn't true, but is neither here nor there).

If you like Bud, fine. Drink up. But if you think all those other beers are absolutely vile, you're in the wrong newsgroup.

That's why you're a troll!

The same people who call you troll are the ones espousing Yeungling, which IMNSHO is a shitty beer. Drink what you like and screw the opinion of the Hop Snobs (tm).

By the way, tomorrow's Saturday in these parts, so your threat of staying home and enjoying Bud all day while we work just isn't holding any water...

I suppose you think AOL is the best ISP anyone can get too.

But it's true. The shipping and import duty pump up the price. Also, retailers are cashing in on the popularity of the imports. They actually do not cost any more to make than Bud if it was produced in the same quantities.

This newsgroups is "alt.beer" if you didn't notice. It isn't "alt.importbeer."

I don't care for AOL. I think it was a yesterday product

Don't underestimate Anheuser-Busch's marketing ploy...it's way more than good, it's top shelf stuff. And the beer itself....it ain't baaahhhhd.....(any inference to sheep whether living or dead is purely coincidental) Just an insanely finite amount of beer out there that's better but then....that's just my humble opinion. You expressed yours, I expressed mine. Mutual respect must be guaranteed.

People are being hoodwinked with foreign beers.

Some "foreign" beers truly suck major ass, others are to *nearly* die for. So which foreign beers do *you* think are hoodwinking the general populace of the US? Some, I'm sure, that you mention I would firmly agree with.

Hehe....the first 5 words in this sentence....

I can't stand up....sorry about that.

Best regards, Bill

But they aren't, are they? So right away, you have economies of scale. Obviously, they *do* cost more to make because they can't take advantage of that -- so, while shipping fees do increase cost, they

*do* cost more to make just on that alone.

More importantly, though, rice is cheap, and there's a lot of rice in Bud. It's true that A-B uses high quality hops, but they don't use much, per oz. And lots of other beers are made entirely from malt, which is much more expensive than rice. And, in a lot of cases, the beer is made with specialty malts or other ingredients that are also expensive.

If your argument is that imported beers *shouldn't* cost more, if only the were brewed in the same volume as A-B brews Bud, is bogus. Your argument that they *don't* cost more to brew is patently bogus.

And the whole question of cost is a red herring. A-B knows exactly how to price Budweiser -- as a "premium" beer although the actual cost of production is undoubtedly pennies above Busch.

Brilliant marketing.

It's also not alt.bud. By dismissing all other beers as "vile" you've proven you have no interest in actually discussing beer; you're a troll. And I've wasted enough time.

That's not "cost more to make." HTH.

And FYI, there is more to beer than a Bud vs. "Imports" false dichotomy.

I can also assure you that more or what you spend on Budweiser goes towards advertising and other drivel than is true for many craft beers. Does it make you happy to pay a huge mark-up for a beer containing 3 cents worth of ingredients per bottle?

And the Ford Escort is the best possible car, Hostess Ho-de-hos are the best pastries ever, etc. Yup, sales volume sure is a good indicator of quality.

Hi there, Jimmy. I know this is a month-old post, but hey, I've been gone for a while and this is too good to pass up.

I like Bud, and I'm proud of it, too.

But let's put things in perspective: I also like Paulaner, Boon, Traquair House, Sierra Nevada, and about 3-400 other imported, domestic micro, and megabrewed beers. Each has its place.

Bud is a pretty good example of a quality American Light Lager, and when I want an ALL, Bus is what I'm likely to reach for. But when I want an Oktoberfest, or a Lambic, or an India Pale Ale, well Bud's not any of those things. I mean hey -- you might like both chocolate and lemon drops, but when you want lemon drops you don't reach for a Hershey's bar, right?

As far as Bud being the #1 selling beer, yes, it's partly due to quality control -- about 10%. The other 90% is due to a multi-million dollar advertising campaign, pure and simple.

Now there's nothing inherently wrong with advertising, but like I say, it's good to put things into perspective.

Na zdrowie!
