Guinness question

It's called a widget. Guinness put them in the bottles and cans to help give it its head.

they are called a "widget" it helps give guinness it's trademark head, a funny story, my brother in laws father works at a recycling plant (just retired last week actually) and he said 2 guys on the "line" their job is to cut open guinness cans and take out the widget (because it's not recycleable, lol) so my brother in-law started cutting open his cans before he recycled them, then after a few weeks he realized he was taking away their job so he stopped, lol.

It's a sphere with a tiny hole that is filled with nitrogen and inserted into the can just before closure. The nitrogen is pressurized by the beer and when you pop the top the nitrogen is released and gives stout more of a head than it would have otherwise.

Yeah, it sure is. I don't drink Guinness at home (will choose it occassionally on tap if it's the best of a bad lot) and I keep forgetting to check when I'm in a retail shop, but don't the cans and bottle labels EXPLAIN the widget rather extensively?

Not only that -- I've heard that Canadian made Guinness is stronger than Irish made Guinness.

i tried guiness once. I was at a restaurant ordered one for something different. I think someone else with us ordered one, took one drank gave it to somebody who was with us, and ordered budweiser. That was the first and last drink i'll ever tak of guiness. Horrible beer.

Yeah, Bud is a great choice if you are looking for beer with no taste. Bud Light is pretty much a redundancy.

I've heared that Guinness contracted Labatts Brewery to make the Guinness Extra Stout. The Extra Stout does have more alcohol (6.8% I think). Guinness Draught Stout has 4.5 % (or something around there). The Extra Stout is also a little more bitter, by design.

'Course when Guinness themselves tell it, they say that all their beer is made in Dublin, so who knows.

Guinness is a true beer and Budweiser is one of the low end of beer flavor. But I thank you for leaving Guinness for the true beer drinkers.

The best beer in the world is the beer you like best, and Guinness is one of the many that I like.

For your information, Guinness is not bitter (at least I don't think so). It is smooth and creamy. It has a nice, dark roast-flavor about it.
