MORE THAN 30 REAL ALES TO STAR AT FRANKLIN’S GARDENS BEER FESTIVAL [Wednesday, June 16, 2004]

Northampton Saints has joined forces with one of its main sponsors Carlsberg-Tetley and the town’s Frog Island Brewery to scour the country for the best real ales for the Franklin’s Gardens Beer Festival.

More than 30 ales will be on offer at Saints’ first beer festival, including Frog Island’s supreme champion Croak & Stagger, when it kicks off in the Franklin’s Gardens Village at 4pm on Friday, July 2.

Friday night’s tasting session will last until 11pm and the Village will re-open again at 11am on Saturday, July 3, for a full 12 hours of family entertainment, food and fine beer.

Tickets for the beer festival cost £10 and include a commemorative pint glass, programme and five half-pint beer vouchers.

Saturday is more of a family day and children will be catered for with bouncy castles and live music. Food will be provided throughout both days by Sauls of Spratton and John Gamble.

Cider and country wine will be available alongside all the real ales, which also include Brains’ The Rev James, Shepherd Neame’s Spitfire, Caledonian’s organic beer Gold Promise, and the strongest beer of the festival, Marston’s Old Empire at 5.7 per cent.

Tickets will be sold at the gate at the end of Abbey Street, with children and non-drinking partners admitted for free. Parking will also be available via the Ross Road entrance.

Too much beer, I expect.

Must say I'm a little worried that its sponsored by Carlsberg :(

Though the attraction of a win win situation - taking small son to play on bouncy castle and having a few good beers seems almost too good to miss...
