Beer near Gatwick Airport

Hi all,

We're staying next Thursday night at a hotel at Gatwick Airport before flying out the next day. Does anyone know any decent pubs in the area, Crawley maybe? We're willing to take a taxi as long as it doesn't (completely) break the bank.

There's always the Six Bells in Horley, just walking distance from the airport. Downtown Horley there are another one or two nice pubs. Both places offer good food and decent beer.

I used to live in Horsham but that was a long time ago so my recommendations are a bit hazy. However, ISTR there are a couple of very good pubs in Newdigate, no more than 6 or 7 miles from the airport.

I lived in the area a long time ago. There was a nice small pub at Iron's Bottom called (IIRC) The Three Horseshoes, and another The Plough at Leigh (pr Lie). When I lived in the area The 3 Horseshoes was a freehouse and the Plough was a King and Barnes pub. K&B were based in the centre of Horsham and sold out years ago - I don't know who runs the pub now.

Where did you eat? The Six Bells or the pub in downtown Horley?

Six Bells used to have London Pride on handpull.
