Bent & Bongs

Hi, Did anyone go to the Beer Bash 07? Notice it mentioned by the cook Jamie on his a.m. prog on the saturday. Went to queue last year but beaten to the door by millions with corporate tickets. Strolled in the rain into town and sampled Moorhouses instead. If the corporate toffs were hogging the firkins this year, the team will be Moorhousing agin in future! BW.... Chris F.

I've not been to the BBBB for years, for the simple reason that it's far too popular for the size of the venue. I'm happy to let others take my place in the queue.

My friends went last year. "Never again" (I quote), because of the overcrowding.

Can antone tell me how long Robinsons Old Tom has been 8%? It was 8.5% before and if I remember rightly many years ago it was enen stronger than that 9% or more!

It's still 8.5%, isn't it? That's what it says in the GBG, and more to the point, that's what it says on the labels of bottled OT.

A quick flick through my collection of elderly GBGs shows OT listed as

8.5% at least as far back as 1991. (My older GBGs don't list beers and breweries in the kind of detail we expect today.)

I daresay it was probably much stronger in ye olden dayes, back before World War I for example, and the strength probably varied a bit from year to year because quality control wasn't as firm as it is these days.

At the Bent & Bongs last week it was listed in their program as 8%! I'm not that old Iwas thinking more 1950s 60s!

That was a mistake. It's still 8.5%.

Hi, We missed the advert this year - no sweat. But what was a massive matter of concern, however, was the recollection that last year we 'pencilled-in' a repeat of our 'Secret BBBB protestfest' to be held on the same night as the BBBB this year and again at the 'Pendle Witch' (I believe its called) a few streets away. There is now a rumour that we may need to hold a wake on an alternative date. Life can be so complicated. BW.... Chris F.
