How clean is your Wetherspoons?

Check your local council's website for a list of all its food outlets and their hygeine ratings.

My EHO friend says the rating system really means:

0-1 stars: really dilapidated and disorganised, food can't be clean. 2-3 stars: good enough, well enough run. 4-5 stars: they don't do anything with real food.

The Scottish & Newcastle "Fizz Factory" got 5 stars, the pie shop/pub where the EHOs themselves eat got 3; Yates Wine Lodge and a Wetherspoons with Cask Marque got absolutely nil points - yuk!

Pubs that don't serve food don't seem to be included - why's lager a food when it's made but not when it's regurgitated?

Must find the scores for some proper breweries...

This seemed moderately interesting but my CAMRA branch's 3 councils, Rochdale, Oldham and Bury appear not to publish this info on their sites.

Ho Hum.

I'd assumed that if Reading did it, it must be compulsory. I'll ask the EHO next time I see him.

No it's a voluntary scheme at the moment but it is planned that it should go nationwide eventually.

My JDW has reopend after its week long refit for the new cooling equipment. Everythings the same (uncleaned carpet included), but the small no-smoking section is now the smoking section. Has anyone else noticed this change in their local JDW?

The smoking section in ours has been greatly reduced in size.

The Half Moon, Mile End London E1 is now half smokeless with effect from Today - one of the two bars is now completely non-smoking, which is a great expansion of the non-smoking area. Also notices on the bar explaining this, and pointing out that the entire Pub will be non-smoking in July by Law as will all Pubs "with a few exceptions" ... (their wording) not sure what they mean by this.
