The only brewery in town is a brewpub which sells Bonsch - essentially an unfiltered Kolsch style beer. They also do a wheat beer.
We just used the tram. Takes under an hour.
Have you considered a trip North to Dusseldorf?
Thanks. I've been to D'dorf before. Apparently Bonn is a pleasant little town, it may be worth a look. I could even travel down by boat from Cologne!

Bonn is very quiet, there are some beer bars and Kneipen, but nothing getting near what you'll find in Cologne, I'm afraid. I terms of things to see, it has quite a few excellent museums, though.
