Cuckmere Haven Brewery

I hear that Harveys of Lewes is to take over this microbrewery at the Golden Galleon pub at Exceat (East Sussex). It can only improve things

- whenever I've tried any of their beers, they've tasted as though the incoming tide has mingled with them. Whether or not this is due to the brewhouse itself being in a sun-trap of a conservatory stuck on the front of the pub, I don't know. Plenty of people always seemed to be happily drinking the stuff though. Anybody claim to have had a decent pint of Cuckmere Haven in the past?

Dave, Cuckmere Haven Brewery has closed, I understand the pub is currently in the process of being guttered/refurbished (delete where appropriate). Harveys have acquired the plant but that has been moved to Lewes.

As for the quality of the beers, I can't comment too much as the beers weren't regularly seen in the North West however i seem to remember when the brewery was in the shed in the garden they were OK.

I happened to pass there a while ago, but I didn't know about the beer at the time. Out of interest, how is the name of the place pronounced? Ex-seet, Ex-ee-at, or something else?

My wife (who's from Cuckfield, East Sussex) says Ex-seet, so who am I (an East Londoner) to argue? After a bit of a look on the web, it seems that Mitchell & Butlers have bought the pub, and the former chef and head brewer have washed their hands of the whole operation. Plus it's not re-opening till April. Hey-ho, I was going to drop in when we're down there in half-term week in Feb (the beer was horrible, but the farm ciders were good)...

Occasionally, but it was always very unreliable.
