Lewes burns Greene King

It seems its not just CAMRA at war with Greene King, Lewes bonfire celebrations featured GK tableau from one or more of the societies ;)

The radio coverage was vague about what they've done to annoy the town, though I suspect kicking Harvey's out of former Beards pubs might be involved. Anyone know more?

Can't add a thing to this story... A friend brought Harvey's Sussex bitter - a polypin of the filtered variety - up to Derbyshire March gone, and it was one of the loveliest brews I've ever tasted. I can understand some local anger if it's been withdrawn from pubs.

Seconded. I visited Lewes earlier in the year and brought a number of their many varieties of beers back with me.

All very good and it's a pity we don't see much of it up North in cask variety.

The truly committed Harveys drinker can get it mail order from including polypins of draught. Pricey but it always is outside Lewes.

I highly recommend the Imperial Extra Double Stout in bottles as well.

Thirded, I was at Sussex Uni in the late '80s and the second-best thing there was the existence of Harvey's brewery just five miles away...

Last pint of that I tasted was hand-pulled in the Bessemer Arms at Sheffield Park Station a couple or three years ago (as it's a 170-mile round trip from here, I don't get there that often). It was in very good nick indeed, and went very well with a generous plateful of roast beef and Yorkshires for lunch. When I am next able to pay that house a visit I sincerely hope that they will still have it on.

Regards, Andrew.
