Lewes Arms on R4 in a wee while.

Radio4's You & Yours is having a piece on GK v Lewes Arms regulars today, at some point in the next hour. (would, I presume also be available on the Scot's Island of Lisnaggen?) cheers MikeMcG

Heard it last night on listen again - a decent slot for it. Yes, it seems GK is reconsidering. I was supposed to be out in Lewes last weekend but we never made it beyond the Lord Nelson near Brighton station - Harvey's of course. Funnily, my local in London (a trendy revamp called the Talbot, N1) is now in the GBG and sells Harvey's but whoever nominated it needs their taste buds realigning from both a beer and venue perspective.

D'you mean the Talbot sucks?

Harveys is good in good pubs, indifferent in in indifferent pubs (typing's getting confusing, maybe I should leave the BCAs and go to bed). I'd bet GK try to welsh on any deal with the Lewes Arms: they haven't the sense to concede gracefully. At first they'll sell Harvey's but pretty soon it'll be theoretically stocked but not actually available. If I was the boycott organisers I'd warn them the bad publicity's coming back as soon as the Harveys isn't.

If I was Harveys I'd insist on cash before delivery.

Well, it's not brilliant and certainly the beer quality does not qualify it for the Good Beer Guide, which is why i was surprised to see it there in this year's guide. it's also far too noisy to be a comfortable place to have a pint.

It's a bit hard to have it not available when the brewery is a few streets away...

But it's amazing what a little ill will (and taking a few months to pay) can do.

GK's attitude's unbelievable, they really sound as if their idea of a perfect pub chain would be one where they decide what we're going to get, then spend our money on advertising to make us buy it.

Or one where they hadn't got to let any customers in at all.

What will probably happen is that Harvey's will reappear but will taste exactly the same as all the other GK clones.

Recently we visited an ex Hardy's and Hanson's pub, the real ales were "Kimberley"bitter, "Ruddles" County and Abbot. Now I have no problems with Abbot, it's a fine beer but the other two tasted just like watered down Abbot! It was in fact not that easy to tell which was which.

How do you work that out? Harvey's is still an independent brewery, and long may it remain so!

That happened here. There are a few "Hobgoblin" pubs in Tokyo, their main pint is of course, Hobgoblin. They also brewed Dogs Bollocks here and had it on tap for a while but the president of the Japanese arm didn't like it and ordered production to be stopped. Silly me always thought it was the customer who decided what to drink.

Not if the brewery stops making it.

GK would theoretically get my custom if they were the last beer brewer in Europe, but you'd think it'd be more profitable for them to get it the easy way.
