Pretzels: beer snacks: UK suppliers

Anyone know where I can buy delicious fresh salty pretzels such as those sold in the beer halls of Bavaria? Any supermarkets in the UK stock 'em?

The Black Country equivalent would be scratchings.

OK, so some people don't like google but what the heck, it works.

If you prefer Excite:

which has two links, one of which points to a firm in an online partnership with Waitrose.

I take it you mean the excellent fresh soft pretzels, rather than the hardbaked president-choking small things?

It's a fresh bread so I don't know how well it would keep if mass-made, but (as suggested elsewhere) you could try a google search for "soft pretzel" let us know if you find any? cheers MikeMcG

Yes. I suppose I will have to look out for small bakery shops that sell "fancy" breads.

I've seen them occasionally in my local Waitrose, so you may be lucky if you have a Waitrose nearby.

If you are looking on the web the German name is Bretzele or in plural Bretzeln. They are also known as Laugen Bretzeln. The Laugen bit gives it its dark colour and can be seen in other breads.

There are also the hard, president choking type that you see elsewhere (including the UK) but they are more what I would call a crisp type snack. They are also much smaller generally.

After we moved back to the UK from Germany we looked long and hard for suppliers of the bread type but did not have any luck. We now make our own from ingredients shipped over from friends in Germany.
