Pubs Wiki

Hey guys, i'm trying to put together a bit of a wiki for pubs all around the world. It would be awesome if anyone who has information about their locals to get stuck in and help me out. The address is;

I've got a bit of info for a whole heap of pubs from australia (mainly through my own experiences!) but any information for other parts of the world would be great. And we need as many editors and moderators as possible...

Thanks guys,

Cheers, James.

Well I've started the ball rolling with my local:

- I guess tomorrow I'll stick a couple more on, not forgetting the Fat Cat in Norwich, like a beer festival every day!

Thanks mate, its good to get some pubs going from not just here in Australia. Would be excellent to add a few more as well. Hopefully we can get a whole range of people's from all over the UK and other places, then if anyone has good stories/pictures or other what not they can post that kinda stuff in the 'talk' section.

I've also added a feature to be able to embed maps into wikipages, so you can bring up a page of your local area and see what pubs are around the place. a good example is my home town of Adelaide;

Anyways feel free to jump in and have a go.

Your Adelaide page is interesting, but it's missing "The Guv". How could you possibly leave that pub out?

Thanks Mike,

Why not jump in and edit the page as you see fit...

There's a lot of pubs missing, and thats why i started this post to try and get people involved in adding their local pubs so feel free to add as many pubs as you like!

Cheers, James.

Thanks go to Amos for adding a few pubs from around the UK greatly appreciated.

I've added a few more from my home town of Adelaide, Australia but i know there are more pubs than these around the place, so step up and add your pubs. Remember its a standard wiki (exactly the same as wikipedia) so you can just edit any pages you want.

If you have any questions on how to create and/or edit pages feel free just to ask.

Cheers, James.

Apparently Wales isn't in the UK now? What's the rationale behind the subcategories?

Hi Gavin, i've been playing around with the categories a bit trying to work out the best way to categorise stuff. I've changed it again to include England, but i'm not sure on geography so i can't really go any further than that. Feel free to have a go if you've got any ideas... Anyways, i've associated the english pubs with England and the UK, and the welsh pubs with Wales and the UK. does this make sense? i'm by far no geographic expert, especially considering i've never been over there!

Cheers, James.

Thanks, James - that makes perfect sense now! I wasn't intending to undermine Wales! Maybe London should now be in the "England" subcategory? I don't know how this works - there is obviously a hierarchical structure here but how far can it go? I mean could there be subcategories in London for North London, South London etc? And then could North London be broken down into boroughs, i.e. Ealing, Barnet, Islington etc?

G'day Gavin, sorry for the late reply however its been pretty busy over the christmas/new years break. I've updated the front page of

formatting link
so hopefully a few more people will get involved now. I've also added a few reviews and stories from some of the pubs that i visited during the break.

In regards to the sub category heirachy, i've not really fussed how we sort it out. I think perhaps the best example is from wikitravel, which is similar to what we're trying to achieve. Their example goes like this;

The Earth contains

  • Continents, which contain... o Continental sections, which contain... + Countries, which contain... # Regions, which contain... * Cities, which contain... o Districts.

So perhaps this should be the setup for pubs on the

formatting link
site, what do you think?

And remember that its easy to create articles for your locals, even if its just to add a quick review of your local pub. Just head to the front page and create an article using the form on the front page.

Cheers, James.
