Recommendations - Upton upon Severn (Worcestershire)

I will be visiting Upton upon Severn this weekend for the Jazz Festival. Grateful for any recommendations in the town. I note that the current GBG recommends the White Hart Hotel (comments, anyone?).

Thanks in advance, Graham.

Hi Graham, If you have wheels, (A cycle will do only a few miles) or a taxi, try the 3 Kings at Hanley castle. See

A wonderful little village with a wonderful old pub. This pub has won national awards for the beer!

If the GBG actually says the White Hart, I can't comment. If, on the other hand it says the White LION...........then I'd go with that all the way! Four real ales. Always Abbot and three other regularly changing brews, mainly from smaller breweries. Jon keeps an excellent cellar despite not liking real ale himself (you can't have everything!!). Don't be put off by the "posh" exterior, it is a very welcoming place with good (if somewhat pricey) food. The staff are very friendly. Well-behaved dogs (and I suppose children) are welcome, and it's definitely the place to be! We stay there each year for the Folk Festival and usually for one night at their Beer Festival (the Bank holidays at either end of May respectively). The Muggery is also OK, but there's no comparison. If you do go there, give the staff our regards, and tell Jon I'll be in touch soon. Thanks. Faith & Keith.

Dave, a good shout as it's a few years since I was last at the Three Kings. I will suggest it to my companions. I've also heard that time has not been kind to Mrs Roberts, I do hope that the pub going to remain in the family.

Cheers, Graham.

The White Lion is recommended and the Three Kings at Hanley Cross is an easy walk at just 1.5 miles.

Upton-on-Severn has two low-key secondhand bookshops, which I strongly recommend. Probably not what you wanted, though :)
