To the brewers of "Old Speckled Hen"......

I'm not sure of that, I've never been able to stand Abbott, except the time our beer festival had a whole load of it left over at the end and it was free. Free Abbott seems to have a distinctly different and more pleasant flavour, I think there've even been times when I've found free lager palatable though, mind...

Morlands used to have a low strength bitter they called Independent Pale Ale (badged IPA on pump clips), and I think Wadworths ordinary bitter is Henry's IPA? GK IPA is hardly unique in this respect.

OSH had come to taste more and more like Abbot anyway and I wouldn't be surprised if it was derived from the same mash.

Independent Pale Ale was an awful beer, as were most of the Morlands beers from the early 80s onwards. Waddies IPA is actually a surprisingly good session bitter, not the best in class by any means but much better than GK.

It was reckoned around our way (Morland heartland) that one of the upsides of the GK takeover was that Original had lost its prior "inconsistency" and become a nice brew most of the time. Predictably, a few years later and it's all but impossible to find now. I was really making this point with regards to the claims GK had no right to name IPA so...
