What has happened to Fuller's London Pride?

I agree completely, in fact I'd say it's the only beer in the country that I'd prefer via sparkler. Tetley's bitter is one I'd never travel to find, but if it's the only beer on offer then I'm very happy to drink it.

So true. I once wrote to the head brewer at Fullers just to ask his opinion on the fact that the majority of pubs in my area sadly serve London Pride through a sparkler, which I find severely degrades the flavour. I had a very pleasant letter back, stating that while he accepted the increase in apparent demand for tight heads, he himself preferred the taste of LP not served via sparkler.

On the subject of LP's quality suffering, as a regular consumer over many years in many pubs, I'd say that recently it can vary markedly from brew to brew. I remember a particular batch around a year ago with a strange taste, which I tasted in two different pubs. A few days later, in a third pub, a normal tasting barrel ran out and sure enough the new one on had that same odd taste.

I'm a fairly regular drinker of Timothy Taylor Landlord, and while I still rate LP as my favourite drink in the world, Landlord would win in a consistency contest these days.

I have given up trying to find a decent pint of Tetley bitter, however I searched out their Mild when I was in Skipton, North Yorkshire in May. I had a few pints at the GBG pub near the public car park (can't think of the name of the pub). Excellent beer.

I agree - excellent - as are many milds. So they'll stop promoting it and then discontinue it on the grounds that there is no demand then. Happened to many milds, notably Boddington's Mild.

I'm quite intrigued by this thread.

I was first introduced to London Pride about ten years ago when it was in cask in the pub near work. A collegue raved over it. I tried it. It was bad !

Since then I've tried it in many and different pubs as so many people seem to like it, but I've never tased aby that was better than "average". Perhaps it's just me.

My opinion is that it should be tasted in a Fullers pub for maximum chances of a good one. (Same remark for Hook Norton - drink in Hook Norton pubs) KeithS

I've had some dire Pride in Fullers' pubs, once even mailed Fullers asking them to reeducate the licensee, as he kept bad beer but an otherwise good pub. They replied that he'd be leaving shortly in any case, and he did. His replacement kept unreliable Fullers.

I'll try it again at Christmas. Maybe the taste will be back to what I am used to. If served well, it is (was) a very tasty pint. But you have got to find a place that serves it "well", which is not so easy.

I know a good pub in Weymouth (Dorset, England) near the train station (The Star, I think). They keep a good cellar and they always have Pride on, so I'll try it there.
