Winter Ales - Manchester

[Snip]

They cost more than a standard sleeve half, but were in fact half pint with a 1/3 marker in a fancy and more expensive design. They didn't cost more than pints IIRC.

Standard mark up across all the glasses.

Irrespective of cost they were every bit as popular as I said they would be and a bit more.

I know it's not right I was just giving an example of how a group of speakers have given a different meaning to a word!

We've been here before. As usual different parts of the UK have used different terms. For example in the midlands a third of a pint is never referred to as a nip but as a "stick".

Not that I'm recommending it per se, but Australians have even more different drinking amounts; see the table toward the bottom of

a "pint" in Adelaide is only 3/4 of a "proper" British 20oz pint!

From experience; in Ireland if drinking halves one should ask for a "glass".

There's probably a PhD for someone here.

Ah, but one has to be selective! At one festival my memory became distinctly hazy after a half of (draught) Fuller's Golden Pride - about the 7th beer I had tried so far.
