"Beer better for you than wine: official"

formatting link

--> At the Institute of Food Technologists annual meeting on

--> Tuesday, Professor Charles Bamforth said: "Beer, if you

--> looked at it holistically, is healthier than wine. But it is

--> not perceived that way."

-->

--> He cited the soluble fibre, vitamin B12, folic acid, niacin

--> and antioxidants present in The Drink That Built An Empire.

--> He said the hard liquor component of beer has the same magic

--> artery-unblocking prowess as in wine, too.

-->

--> Bamforth conducted a study of 325 visitors to breweries in

--> the States. When asked which is the healthiest alcoholic

--> beverage, naïve tipplers put red and white wine at the top

--> of the list. Then came something called light beer

--> (apparently popular in the New World), then normal lager,

--> and finally dark beer.

-->

--> A paltry 39 per cent of those polled were aware of the

--> miraculous nutritional fortitude of the glorious loopy

--> juice.

-->

--> Even more chillingly, Bamforth says the custodians of our

--> health are among those peddling misinformation about beer.

--> He said: "I have a friend who is a doctor who says, 'don't

--> drink beer because it has fat'. There's no fat in it at

--> all."

-->

--> Bamforth is Anheuser-Busch endowed Professor of Brewing

--> Science at the University of California. Funnily enough,

--> Anheuser-Busch is responsible for rubbish rice-based brew

--> Budweiser.

Wine has flavonoids which prevent macular degeneration. Beer doesn't. Macular degeneration is bad.

There's no cancer in cigarettes either.

Dark beer has flavonoids. Beer has no fat in it. Drink enough of it and it can *make* you fat; however, so will wine or even carrot sticks if taken in large enough amounts. The culprit is CALORIES.

'Nuff said.

IIRC, celery is a dead loss. It take more energy to chew and digest than it provides in calories.

If you say so.

Those are all facts. They say nothing whatsoever about whether wine or beer is more healthy.

Wow, you're just the font of illogic, aren't you?

I believe that pete is completely correct on this point. I very much doubt that the stewards of the cigarette industry would allow any cancerous tobacco or other cancerous tissues to be present in their very fine, safe and therapeutic product.

They are both inneficient. Wild Turkey (tm) is faster and you wind up in the same jail.

But the important thing is the journey, not the destination.

Although when I want to get "there" fast, I prefer a little Lagavulin single malt scotch. :-)

Well it would take a _lot_ of carrot sticks to make up for a carton of beer, but me and my baby buddah beer gut thinks that the facts could be right in this case.

Dammit I remember when I used to tell other people about body shaping exercise not need it myself.

Shhh, you're driving the price up!

Adults who are old enough to refer to other adults as "kids", drink whiskey and smoke cigars. Kids drink beer and smoke cigarettes.

I, for one, welcome Lots42's evil twin: especially if he decides to burn flea markets and has cats named Thelma and Louise.

Nah... kids drink Budweiser and smoke cigarettes. Real adults drink real beer and leave the smoking to others. ;-)
